12 Things You Didn’t Know About Me!

#5 Coal Miners Daughter is my favorite movie!!

As mentioned in a previous blog post by me, I mentioned that I was from a small coal mining town. That is the reason why Coal Miners Daughter is one of my favorite movies! It  is based in Harlan, Kentucky (which isn’t far from where I grew up) about the famous country music singer Loretta Lynn. She grew up as a coal mines daughter there before she came to the realization that she could sing! During the movie while she was singing on stage with Patsy Cline, I was crowned Miss VA/KY District Fair 2014 on that same stage!! There are so many people from my hometown area that know alot of the cast of this movie. Because I have so many ties to this movie, thats why it is my favorite!

#4 I love to travel!

One of my favorite things to do in my free time is travel! Whether its with family or with friends! Over the course of my 21 years I have been to very many interesting places, mainly for pageants. Last summer I had the opportunity to visit Las Vegas and see the Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon! This was definitely one of my most favorite trips that I have been on. Whether its a long flight to Vegas or just a road trip to Hot Springs, I absolutely love to travel.

I have not been able to travel outside of the United States yet, but that is definitely a goal of mine that I would love to achieve in the near future!

12 Things You Didn’t Know About Me!

#3 I’m an only child!

On August 8th, 1995, I was born in a small city called Norton! Both of my parents were in their 40’s when I was born, so you could say I was quite the little surprise! Being an only child definitely has its pros and cons… I appreciate it more now that I’m older! When I was younger I always wanted to have a brother or sister to play with and how someone so close to me to talk to about things, but now as an adult, I’m more than thankful my parents only had one child (:

After this win, I competed for the title of Miss Teen United States that following summer in Washington D.C. During this trip to D.C. on the 4th of July weekend, i truly had the time of my life with 52 of America’s finest. I made so many new friendships that will last a lifetime!

12 Things You Didn’t Know About Me!

#1 I was raised in a small coal mining town called Clinchco, Virginia!

I grew up in a very small town in Southwest Virginia known as Clinchco. This town only has a population of nearly 400 people! Most of you are probably thinking “I had twice as many in my high school graduating class that she has in her ENTIRE hometown?!” This town was once based off of coal mining. My father has been a coal miner since the age of 16. In this town there is not many different things to do besides coal mining!

A major attraction to Clinchco is the Coal Miners Memorial Stone! This is a stone that shows the names of fallen coal miners in the area. Many people from all over the United States come to Clinchco to view this memorial.

This town might seem small, which it is, but the people in Dickenson County, Virginia are some of the sweetest people you will ever meet. Its a town where everyone knows everyone. Whether you are going to TTT to get groceries or to Riverside to get your spring flowers, you will always be greeted with a smile, a wave, or a handshake from the people of Clinchco, Virginia!

Follow me… to Viva Las Vegas!

On July 30, 2016, I flew to Las Vegas, Nevada to support the Miss Virginia United States team at Miss United States and for my 21st birthday! It was suppose to be a 10 day vacation that ended up being an almost 2 week stay in Las Vegas. This was my first trip to Vegas, and it was definitely a trip to remember! The week started out being a pretty normal pageant weekend. We decided to branch out into Las vegas after and during the pageant week to really experience life in Vegas! During the 2 weeks, we got to visit Caesars Palace for their 50th year Anniversary, watched Miss Teen USA live from the Venetian, visited Hoover Dam, shopped at the Fashion Show Mall, visited downtown Las Vegas (Fremont Street) and so much more all while staying at the beautiful Palms Resort!

At the end of our stay, our flight was cancelled due to bad weather in Knoxville so we got to stay one more night in this exciting city! This was the night of my 21st birthday so we had dinner at Don Vito’s at the South Point Hotel where the airlines let us stay for the night!

vegs-2Everyone probably has the desire to visit Las Vegas and I am here to push you to do so! Vegas truly has something for everyone. Whether its for a weekend or for 2 weeks, VISIT LAS VEGAS!

Follow me… to The Grand Canyon!

On August 7th, 2016, my mother and I took the trip of a lifetime (also a very unplanned trip) to the Grand Canyon West Rim! We visited Las Vegas, Nevada for the Miss United States pageant then made a very unexpected trip to the Grand Canyon. It started out as a normal day on our 11 day vacation, but we found a bus tour brochure that was pointing us straight to the Grand Canyon!

Religious or not, people say that you can truly feel the presence of God standing at the edge of the Grand Canyon.

“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:28-31 ❤

The ENTIRE Grand Canyon experience was one for the books! Getting to visit one of the Wonders of the World was really something special. This summer, or whenever you can, I encourage you to visit the Grand Canyon. Whether its just on a bus tour for the day, or if you want to camp there overnight, I promise the Grand Canyon will not disappoint!
